Archaeology is a field where experts all around the world search for traces of former civilizations and remains to better understand the origins of modern civilization. Every day, small and large finds are made, some of which are quite unexpected and fascinating. The following discoveries are some of the most noteworthy, and they give us clues about civilizations of the past.

The dynasty of Tutmosis in Egypt is a little known but intriguing story from Egypt’s golden age. Many of the tombs have been looted, and the remnants of the former civilization have been destroyed, built over, or forgotten. Tutmosis II and his sister, Hatshepsut, ruled over ancient Egypt for a number of years, around 3500 BC. Until recently, it was impossible to find Tutmosis’s tomb, but with the discovery of a stone box during an excavation on the Nile, researchers from the University of Warsaw may have found an important clue.

When two amateur researchers discovered a golden object while searching for new fossils, they thought it was a golden cannonball. However, it was later discovered that it was a finely polished stone that had developed a golden surface due to chemical properties. When the sphere was broken open, an almost 185 million-year-old fossil was revealed.

The holy land has been inhabited for centuries, but actual evidence of former peoples has been scarce until recently. A dam that was washed free by special circumstances on the coast of Israel has been discovered, and researchers believe that it was built to protect former settlers from the rising sea level, almost 7,000 years ago.

A cult site of the local god of war has been found in the ancient capital of the empire, which likely once served the Sumerians as a place for settlement. The temple complex was dedicated to the god of war, and experts believe that ritual battles took place in his honor, for example, before starting a war.

The largest dinosaur ever found, the Titanosaur, was discovered in Argentina. Based on the gigantic thigh bone, the animal is believed to have been 40 meters long, 20 meters high, and weighed about 70 tons, making it heavier than 14 African elephants. Fortunately, a significant portion of the 150 bones found are in remarkable condition, and researchers can now spend the next few years learning more about this extraordinary animal.

The aborigines are one of the oldest peoples, and their rock art tells stories about the former lives of the indigenous people. With the help of insect nests near the rock art, researchers have been able to date the origins of these drawings, some of which are already 16,000 years old, while others are still 12,000 years old.
