The September issue always stands out in the realms of fashion, beauty, and entertainment. One of the highlights of these issues is the cover photo as it captures a moment in time. Currently, I am captivated by Cardi B’s Vogue Mexico cover, where her voluminous curls and radiant skin make me bow in awe.
Describing Cardi B as simply beautiful seems like an understatement. Vogue Mexico shared images from the photo shoot on August 25th on its Instagram, with the first picture featuring the female rapper in an all-black ensemble, hands on hips, surrounded by her voluminous curls. The caption reads, “Su nombre lo conoces, ahora es tiempo de que sepas la historia detrás de la cantante dispuesta a seguir la tradición, mientras escribe su leyenda,” roughly translating to “You know her name, now it’s time to learn the story behind the singer ready to carry on the tradition as she writes her own legend.”
The moment I saw her voluminous curls, I couldn’t help but think of Diana Ross, an iconic figure known for both her hair and music. Cardi’s hairstylist, Tokyo Stylez, clearly embodies the “go big or go home” philosophy when styling her hair. He allows Cardi’s part to take a bold turn and lets the curls frame her face, cascading down the sides.
Although she appears to have minimal makeup, skillfully done by makeup artist Erika La’Pearl, you might think she’s wearing just a subtle winged eyeliner, pink lip gloss, lip liner, and a touch of mascara. However, to achieve this look, La’Pearl utilized all products from Pat McGrath Labs, which she showcased on her Instagram page. This includes the Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection The System (consisting of primer, foundation, and powder), Skin Fetish: Highlighter & Balm Duo in Bronze, and the revered Skin Fetish: Highlighter in Honey for the rapper’s foundation.
Using Perma Precision Liquid Eyeliner and PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil in Xtreme Black, La’Pearl drew small cat-eye flicks. For the ombré lips, she outlined Cardi’s lips with PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil in Structure and applied Lust: Gloss in Flesh Astral for the finishing touch.
