Scarlett Johansson Was Tired Of Being Asked Personal Questions About What Was Underneath Her Black Widow Costume

Extra reporter Jerry Penacoli was on the other side of the interview alongside 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕 𝑱𝒐𝒏𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏 and Jeremy Renner. The two were promoting The Avengers at the time. Clearly, Johansson didn’t anticipate so many questions about her Black Widow suit, and what was underneath. Johansson wasn’t pleased when she was asked the question, especially given that it wasn’t the first time it came up during an interview.

𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕 𝑱𝒐𝒏𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏 tells the interviewer, “You’re like the fifth person that’s asked me that today. What is going on? Since when do people start asking each other in interviews about their underwear?”

Penacoli tried to justify the question, but Johansson wasn’t having it. She did explain that the suit was very tight, and something that resembled a wetsuit. As for what was underneath, Johansson didn’t give a straight answer.

She said, “I’ll leave it up to your imagination. Whatever you feel like I should be wearing or not wearing under that costume.”

Although it wasn’t the type of question she was looking to answer while promoting the film, the actress received a lot of praise from the fans for the way she handled it all.

Fans Praised Scarlett Johansson For Her Response During The Interview

The moment has over 1 million views on the Extra TV YouTube channel. As expected with all those views, fans had a lot to say about the interview, and the way Johansson handled herself. Fans took exception to the question to begin with. One fan noted that Chris Evans’ suit is even tighter, yet he never got asked such a question.

“What gets me is that Chris Evans’ Captain America suit was perhaps even tighter than the Black Widow catsuit yet I have never found an interview yet with someone asking him what he wore underneath. Yet Scarlett got that question a bunch of times.”

Most of all the other comments just praised Johansson for standing up for herself.

“Literally so inappropriate. That has nothing to do with promoting the movie, and Scarlett handled it well. Go Scarlett!” Another fan writes, “I love the way she handled the question and continued the interview. Such class.”

In truth, although Scarlett didn’t go into detail during the interview, she wasn’t exactly fond of the actual costume itself. The actress still recalls her first reaction to seeing the suit in person.

Scarlett Johansson Wasn’t Excited Over The Black Widow Suit When She First Saw It

𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕 𝑱𝒐𝒏𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏 revealed her first reaction to Black Widow’s costume and it wasn’t a positive one. Usually, this is a great moment for actors that are playing the role of a superhero. However, Scarlett just couldn’t understand how she was supposed to fit in the suit.

“Look at that thing. I mean, who wants to get into something like that?” Johansson started.

𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕 𝑱𝒐𝒏𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏 would go on to reveal that she wished for the suit to be less revealing and with a little more room. The star did feel exposed when wearing it for the first time.

“You just think, ‘Oh god, really? Couldn’t it have, like I don’t know, some sort of a peplum skirt or something?’ This thing is like very: there you are. It was also everything it represented. The character was so beloved. She’s an iconic character. And I didn’t know how people were going to take it. What the hell was I doing in this franchise? It was daunting.”

As for the return rumours, 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕 𝑱𝒐𝒏𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏 recently addressed them. She revealed that a return seems very unlikely, “I think it might be… I think it was the end, right? I don’t know how you come back from that.”

She continues, “I would have… it would be a miracle. It would be real Marvel miracle. It would be a marvel. But, you know, who knows? Eh… I’m not sure.”

At the very least, the actress is keeping the hope alive and not closing the door completely.
