It is my great honor to introduce you to Sundae, a sweet dog who is incredibly observant … so much so that he is able to detect even the slightest change in everyday things.
Well, except when it doesn’t.
Sundae became part of their loving family a couple of years ago . As soon as he was adopted by Hearts & Bones Rescue, a nonprofit dog rescue based in New York City, he became a valued member of the family.
He is a very healthy puppy. However, Sundae struggles with some pretty nasty and annoying allergies for which he has to take medication to keep them under control.
But, when it comes to pills, this pup isn’t a big fan .
Because of this, his mom, Marina Rachael, had to think of ways to give him the medication without him actually knowing .
He first tried the usual method, which was to hide it in his food , but this pup detective managed to find it every time.
“The first time we put the pill in his food, he looked at us as if to say, ‘That tastes bad.’ No, thanks.’ We tried to hide the pill in the bowl of candy, but she still walked away from it when he found it, like, “I didn’t order this.” On the third try, she had basically trained herself to look for the pill. She would choose her croquettes and place them on the floor, piece by piece, until she found the pill and then she would eat again,” Marina said.
Because of this, Marina had to think of a more creative way for Sundae to take his medication.
Sundae thought he had outsmarted his mother since he looked for the pill in all his meals. However, his mother had a pretty clever trick up her sleeve.
Marina began to put two pills into the container.
I would put a pill on top of [his food] that was barely hidden. She would choose that one and then devour the rest without noticing the second pill.
Since he still takes a pill, Sundae always believes that he is the one who comes out victorious .
Thanks to this clever trick, Sundae never forgot a single pill, putting all of his allergies under control .He never realized it. It is a method that I have continued to use whenever he needs medication.
This is one of those stories that reminds us how determined dog parents really can be.Although this puppy did not want to take his medication, Marina knew how important it was for her overall health.
But the fact that Sundae realized that the pills altered the taste of his food is proof enough of his genius .
However, this student has a lot to learn if he really wants to outsmart his loving teacher.
