Sadly, the vet delivered bad news, revealing that Caro was suffering from multiple illnesses including mange, malnutrition, sunburn, and dehydration. Caro was in a severe state. He was only six months old at the time but his weight was only 18 pounds which is far below the standard weight for a healthy German shepherd. Turner made it a point to visit him every day and as she observed small successes such as Caro being able to lift his head or eat solid food, she grew more attached to him. Although these moments may seem insignificant, they played an important role in his return to good health.
The connection between Turner and Caro strengthened, resulting in her decision to officially become his adoptive parent. Bringing Caro into her household meant taking the time to ensure a smooth integration with her seven-year-old pup Casey. Turner carefully tended to Caro’s needs, including giving him medicinal baths and feeding him small meals to aid in his recovery. Over time, Caro thrived under Turner’s care, regaining his healthy weight and restoring the shine to his beautiful brown and black coat.
