Mabel, an adored dog, was the only child in her home until she turned three. Then came a twist when her owner, Carrie Bartsh, decided to introduce a new furry friend, Milo, into their lives.
Despite Carrie’s best efforts, Mabel wasn’t quite ready to share the spotlight. She struggled to adjust to sharing Carrie’s affections, even as Carrie strived to distribute equal doses of love to both pets.
“They both become quite envious if they perceive the other is getting more attention,” Carrie shared with The Dodo. “Even our cat isn’t spared from Mabel’s jealousy.”
Despite their sibling rivalry, Mabel and Milo spend their days frolicking and teasing each other. As the elder, Mabel takes charge, while Milo keeps her youthful and active. In return, Mabel ensures Milo stays in check.
Early February brought a peculiar change in Mabel’s behavior. During a playful romp, Carrie noticed blood on Milo’s paw. She immediately rushed him to the vet for treatment. Initially, Mabel seemed indifferent, but her disinterest quickly faded when she realized Milo was receiving extra attention.
Mabel, not one to be outdone, decided it was her turn to be ‘injured.’ She promptly positioned herself in front of Carrie, lying on her side, ready for her dose of care.
Carrie found the situation hilariously endearing. “I pretended to bandage her up just like Milo, complete with a veterinary wrap and head kisses. She seemed content and trotted off happily,” Carrie said, chuckling.
Milo is getting better, and his paw no longer bleeds, but every night at a bandage-changing time, Mabel trots over, ready for her ‘bandage’ too. They’re like adorable twins, mirroring each other’s actions and even sporting matching bandages!
In the end, this cute tale of Mabel and Milo serves as a delightful reminder of the quirks and charms that make our furry friends such an integral part of our lives.
