The Tiny Miracle Hannah Among the Lightest Babies Worldwide
Hannah, the newborn, came into the world via cesarean section on July 11 at Nassau Medical Center in East Meadow, Long Island, USA. Earlier in June, Jennifer Pena de Mena, Hannah’s mother, was hospitalized due to complications during pregnancy. With signs of fetal distress, doctors had to perform an emergency operation at just 25 weeks of gestation.
At birth, Hannah was smaller than an adult’s hand. Due to her unstable health condition, she spent the first three months in an incubator for close monitoring.
Despite the fragile chances of survival, Hannah’s mother never lost hope. Finally, after three months of dedicated medical care, Hannah gained weight, her health progressed positively. She was discharged on October 23, weighing 2.4kg.
At present, Hannah’s health has significantly stabilized.
It’s unbelievable that this angelic little girl was once as small as a hand.
Hannah has returned home to her mother’s embrace.
Babies born prematurely, typically categorized as preterm infants, often weigh less and have smaller bodies. Some may experience delayed growth and development. After birth, preterm infants commonly face issues related to their intestines, vision, and oral health. Additionally, they are more susceptible to infections.
Common health concerns for preterm infants include asthma, lung problems, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, and neurological disorders.
Statistics show that babies born at 24 weeks of gestation have only a 40% chance of survival. Preterm infants born at 22 weeks or earlier usually have very low chances of survival.
