The Saturday Night Live comedian, 41, appeared on this week’s episode of the iHeartPodcast Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi, sharing some of his favorite activities to do with his son Cosmo, 2.

“One thing that’s really important with [Cosmo] is I take him swimming a lot whenever I can β€” like pool or ocean,” Jost shares.

“He’s only 2 and he’s a pretty good swimmer actually, like he’s almost independent swimming, which is kinda crazy. He’s a smart guy, too, such a fun kid.”

“I didn’t always love the competitive part of swimming, but I did love being in a pool and I’m very happy around water all the time. And that’s something I’d like to share with him in different ways.”

The actor also explains that he was very close with his grandfather, noting that his son Cosmo got to spend a few years with him before he passed.

“Even though I’m sure Cosmo won’t remember that time, I’m excited to impart elements of my grandpa in him. His middle name is my grandpa’s name and [Cosmo has] the spirit of a lot of the great things in my grandpa, a curiosity that my grandpa really had,” Jost says.

“One of the last things he said to me, on his death bed, were ‘Don’t worry, I’m okay,’ ” Jost recalls. “I think that’s one of the last things I will hopefully impart in Cosmo. I don’t know how much of it’s taught versus in you, but a gratitude and some kind of grace with people is a great thing.”

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost attend the "Asteroid City" red carpet during the 76th annual Cannes film festival

In June, the actress, 39, got candid with PEOPLE about filming Asteroid City just eight weeks after welcoming son Cosmo.

“I hadn’t worked,” she recalled. “Not just because I had a baby, but there was COVID. I hadn’t shot anything in like three years or something like that.”

The star noted that her husband Jost was able to come watch Cosmo while she shot the film.

“He was able to come for like a week or something like that, which was also incredibly helpful, especially because you need someone to burp the baby in the middle of the night,” she revealed. “It’s great when it’s your partner there to help you do it.”

The Black Widow actress also joked that he had a great time β€œenjoying the fruits of my labor” as he got to enjoy a surprise musical performance from Brazilian musical artist Seu Jorge while she was busy filming.
